Haplogroup J1

This haplogroup is often recognised as Arab and Jewish. Both languages are Semitic, and are member of the Afro-Asiatic language family. This language family is distributed in the area of the E-M35 branch, and is probably the origin of this language family. This means that the branches of J1 adopted the language of this language family. It seems possible that the early J1 tribe spoke a language that is related to one or a few of the isolate languages in the Middle East.

Different branches of J1 had their own history after the early stages. Notice that several older branches in the second time map are present in the early period, and now still have a few descendants, while branches in the first time map expand to large population densities.

A few specific remarks on some branches:

The J-CTS1026 had a strong population growth near 6000ybp at the north side of the Caucasus, see Northeast Caucasian languages (in prep.).
The branch of J-FGC11 went to the Arab peninsula en became the main branch of Arabs, and distributed the Arab language. The red dots at 450 CE are the result of interpolation. The data is consistent with a migration at the time of the Arab conquest.
J-Y4067 is one of the smaller branches outside J-FGC11 that expanded after the Mohammed.
The branches below J-Z1884 (J-FGC11, J-Z640, J-Y2919 (YSC76) and J-FGC12834 (which includes PF4876 and L829) all have a fast increase. This time estimate has uncertainties. Yfull reports 4300ybp, but only one out six estimates (FGC11 in comparison to 4 brothers and father) gives this low value. This estimate could be somewhat older. It has been suggested that this branch migrated from the north-east of the Fertile Crescent to the Levant. It is thought that they changed their language to the local Afroasiatic language (Semitic).
